LiFePO4 stands for lithium iron phosphate. It is a lithium battery chemistry commonly used in portable power stations, vehicle-mounted systems, caravans and off-grid setups.
Compared with older lead-acid or AGM batteries, LiFePO4 batteries are usually lighter for the same usable capacity, hold voltage more consistently as they discharge, and tolerate deeper regular discharge. That means more of the rated battery capacity can be used in real work instead of being kept in reserve to protect the battery.
LiFePO4 is also one of the more thermally stable lithium chemistries. That does not make it magic or risk-free, but it is well suited to vehicle and portable power applications when paired with the right battery management system, enclosure and charging design.
For buyers, the important point is usable energy. A LiFePO4 system can generally deliver more practical work from the same labelled capacity than an equivalent lead-acid system, with less weight and lower maintenance.
